RUCKUS One: Switches & Access Points

01What Is RUCKUS One?
RUCKUS One is the cloud-based management platform that Allegiant uses to monitor, configure, and maintain your network switches and wireless access points — all from a single dashboard, without needing to be on-site.
Instead of having to physically access each switch to make changes, Allegiant manages everything remotely through ruckus.cloud — including pushing configuration changes, monitoring health, and scheduling firmware updates.
What RUCKUS One manages on your behalf
- Network switches (ICX series) — your wired infrastructure connecting devices, phones, access points, and servers
- Wireless access points (RUCKUS APs) — Wi-Fi hardware throughout your space, including SSIDs, radio settings, client policies, and AP firmware
- VLANs and network segmentation — keeping guest traffic, business traffic, and device traffic separate and secure across both wired and wireless
- Firmware updates — keeping switches and APs current and secure, scheduled to minimize disruption
- PoE (Power over Ethernet) — powering APs, phones, and cameras through the network cable itself

02Supported ICX Switches
RUCKUS ICX switches are enterprise-grade managed switches built to work alongside RUCKUS wireless access points. All models below can be fully managed through RUCKUS One.

03RUCKUS Access Points
In addition to ICX switches, RUCKUS One manages your RUCKUS wireless access points (APs). Both are configured and monitored from the same dashboard — when Allegiant looks at your network, switches and APs are visible together under your venue.
What Allegiant manages on your APs through RUCKUS One
- SSIDs and Wi-Fi networks — creating, modifying, and removing wireless networks (corporate, guest, IoT, etc.)
- Radio settings — channel selection, transmit power, band steering between 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz / 6 GHz
- Security policies — WPA2/WPA3 encryption, client isolation, rogue AP detection
- AP firmware updates — same scheduled update process as switches, managed centrally
- Client visibility — which devices are connected to which AP, signal strength, throughput
- AP health and alerts — offline detection, interference alerts, AI-driven performance recommendations
How APs and switches work together
RUCKUS APs are typically powered by and connected to ICX switches via PoE. RUCKUS One understands this relationship — Allegiant can see that a specific AP is on a specific switch port, how much power it's drawing, and trace connectivity issues end-to-end from the client device through the AP down to the switch port, all without leaving the dashboard.
04Onboarding Your Switch
Onboarding is the process of connecting a new ICX switch to RUCKUS One so it can be cloud-managed. It's largely automatic — the switch does most of the work once it has internet access.
What needs to happen first
- AThe switch must be powered on and connected to a network with internet access
- BThe switch needs a DHCP-assigned IP address (standard in most networks)
- COutbound HTTPS (port 443) to *.ruckus.cloud must not be blocked by a firewall
- DAllegiant will need the 11-digit serial number from the switch label
What happens during onboarding

1Allegiant adds the switch serial number to RUCKUS One and assigns it to your location (called a Venue).

2The switch boots up, gets an IP address, and reaches out to RUCKUS One over the internet.

3RUCKUS One recognizes the switch and begins pushing the configuration profile assigned to your venue.

4If a firmware update is needed, RUCKUS One downloads and installs it automatically. This can take 10–20 minutes.

5Once complete, the switch status shows Operational — it is now fully cloud-managed.

05Venues & Configuration Profiles
In RUCKUS One, your physical location is called a Venue. Every switch, access point, and network setting is organized under a venue. If you have multiple locations, each gets its own venue.
What is a Configuration Profile?
A Configuration Profile is a pre-defined template that tells your switches how to be set up — which VLANs to create, how to handle PoE, security settings, and more. Allegiant creates this profile and assigns it to your venue before your switches are added. When a new switch comes online, it automatically receives this configuration.
- Ensures every switch at your site is consistently configured
- Replacement switches auto-configure when plugged in — no manual setup needed
- Changes to the profile can be pushed to all switches in the venue simultaneously

06VLANs & Port Configuration
VLANs (Virtual Local Area Networks) divide your network into separate, isolated segments. Even though everything shares the same physical switches, different types of traffic stay separated — keeping your business data apart from guest Wi-Fi, security cameras, or VoIP phones.

07Firmware Updates
Firmware is the software running inside your switches. Keeping it current ensures you have the latest security patches and bug fixes. RUCKUS One handles firmware management centrally — Allegiant schedules updates during off-hours to avoid disrupting your workday.

3Firmware can be pre-downloaded in the background hours before the window, reducing update time.

4During the update, the switch briefly reboots. Connected devices will lose network access for 1–3 minutes.

5Once back online, the switch checks in with RUCKUS One and resumes normal operation.
08PoE — Power over Ethernet
Power over Ethernet (PoE) lets network switches deliver electrical power through standard network cables. Devices like wireless access points, IP phones, cameras, and door controllers receive both data and power from a single cable — no separate power adapter needed.

- PoE monitoring — Allegiant can view real-time power draw per port and total switch PoE budget
- Remote port power cycling — Allegiant can reboot a PoE-powered device remotely without a site visit
- PoE scheduling — ports can be configured to power on/off on a schedule (e.g., powering down APs overnight)
09Monitoring & Alerts
RUCKUS One continuously monitors your network using AI to detect issues before they affect your business. Allegiant receives alerts and can act on them — often resolving problems before you're even aware of them.
- Switch health and uptime — is each switch online and functioning normally?
- Port status — which ports are active, at what speed, with what devices connected?
- PoE usage — power consumption per port and across the switch
- Firmware currency — are switches running current, recommended firmware?
- Configuration drift — has anything changed that doesn't match the assigned profile?
